Professor Efthymia Alexopoulou is a Paediatric and Interventional Radiologist at the Medical School of the University of Athens and she leads the Pediatric Radiology Division at the Attikon University Hospital.

In 1994-1995 she did a fellowship in Paediatric Radiology in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. She obtained a CIRSE Grant and did an additional training in Interventional Radiology in Royal Liverpool University Hospital. In 2011 she obtained the EBIR. She has been member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic College of Radiology and of the Hellenic Society of Interventional Radiology.

She is an ESPR member since 1997 and she was a vice president at the ESPR meeting 2012 in Athens. She is member of the ESPR cardiothoracic taskforce, ERS Task Forces on several topics and former member of the Paediatric Scientific Subcommittee at ECR. In September 2024 she organized the ECPR Chest, heart and neck M1.

Currently she participates in the Child-BEAR-Net (ERS endorsed) project, which is an international initiative, aimed at studying bronchiectasis in children.

Evangelos Chartampilas

BIOIATRIKI

I graduated from Medical School of Thessaly in 1998 and I completed my specialty in Radiology in 2007 (Hippokration General Hospital of Thessaloniki), therefore I have approximately 17 years of clinical practice. I have worked in the private clinic “Bioclinic Thessaloniki” for more than ten years, then in University Hospital of Thessaloniki “AHEPA” for two years and currently I am working in a private primary diagnostic center “Bioiatriki” since 2022. My main interest is in abdominal and oncologic imaging. I am a full member of the European Society of Oncologic Imaging (ESOI) and European Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology (ESGAR), attending their annual congress regularly. I work closely with oncologists, surgeons and gastroenterologists and also participate in Bioclinic’s weekly oncologic MDT. For the past year, I became more systematically involved in prostate imaging.

Demosthenes Cokkinos

Demosthenes Cokkinos was born in Athens in 1969.

He studied Medicine in the University of Patras, Greece, obtained his PhD in 2000 and the specialty of Radiology in 2001.

He has worked for various Hospitals in Greece and the United Kingdom (Corinth Hospital, Athens Hippocration, Evangelismos, Hammersmith Hospital London). Currently he works in Lefkos Stavros-The Athens Clinic, with a main interest in body and vessel Ultrasound, Elastography and Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound.

He is author/co-author of 44 international full papers, 370 presentations and 130 invited lectures in Greek and international meetings.

He has received 10 Greek and international awards, including 1 RSNA Education Exhibit Cum Laude and 2 RSNA Education Exhibit Certificates of Merit.

He was a blinded reader in the 2013 SonoVue/Lumason Liver Studies which obtained approval in 2016 for its use by the USA FDA.

Efstathios Detorakis

UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OF HERAKLION

Efstathios Detorakis is a consultant radiologist with particular interest in chest, heart and oncologic imaging. He got his medical degree from the State University of Milan, Italy in 2002 and completed his residency in Radiology at the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece in 2011. The same year won a scholarship of the European School of Radiology (ESOR) and was trained in cardiac imaging at the Lariboisiere Hospital in Paris, France. From 2011 till 2019 worked in private sector in CT and MRI departments. He received his PhD on chest imaging at the University of Crete in 2017. The last 3 years is working as consultant radiologist at the University Hospital of Heraklion, focusing on chest, heart and oncologic imaging on CT and MRI. He gave more than 30 lectures in local and international congresses, has participated in more than 40 international congresses and has more than 10 publications in pubmed.

Dimitrios Filippiadis

UNIVERSITY GENERAL HOSPITAL “ATTIKON”

Dr. Dimitrios Filippiadis serves as Associate Professor of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology at the Medical School of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. His work has resulted in over 160 scientific publications, hundreds of scientific and business presentations, 34 book chapters, and substantial industrial grant support. He is a CIRSE Fellow and the recipient of more than 15 major honors/awards. Dr Filippiadis has served in the scientific program committees of CIRSE, ECIO, SIO, ECR, RSNA and in the Editorial Board of major journals including CVIR. Currently Dr Filippiadis serves as Chairman of CIRSE’s Online Education Committee.

 

Nikolaos Galanakis

University Hospital of Heraklion

Dr Nikolaos Galanakis MD, MSc, PhD, EBIR is elected Assistant Professor of Interventional Radiology at University of Crete, Medical School.

He qualified from the Medical School of the University of Crete in 2013. He has completed a PhD on the role of CT and MR perfusion techniques in patients with Peripheral Arterial Disease and he has also a Master on Healthcare Management. Moreover, he was a clinical fellow at the Department of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology in San Paolo University Hospital of Milan.

His clinical practice includes the majority of interventional radiology procedures including peripheral endovascular procedures, venous interventions, EVAR, transarterial embolization and chemoembolization, radiofrequency and microwave ablation, biliary and genitourinary interventions.

Dr Nikolaos Galanakis has authored or co-authored more than 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers, 2 book chapters and he has presented numerous oral and poster scientific presentations and invited lectures in national and international conferences. He has received 6 awards or distinctions for his research activities.

He is President of Radiological Society of Crete, board member of Medical Association of Heraklion and member of ESR, CIRSE, Hellenic College of Radiology and Hellenic Radiological Society.

Christina Kalogeropoulou

UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OF PATRAS

Dr. Christina Kalogeropoulou is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Patras Medical School and the Head of the CT Department at Patras University Hospital in Greece. She specializes in gastrointestinal and abdominal radiology, chest imaging, and oncologic imaging, with significant clinical and research contributions. Her research focuses on liver diseases, including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), CAD in chest HRCT for interstitial lung diseases (ILDs), AI applications for preoperative parathyroid gland localization, and body composition in sarcopenia and osteoporosis. Dr. Kalogeropoulou is an active member of ESGAR, ESTI, and ECR and serves on the Steering Committee of the Hellenic Society of Radiology, emphasizing Education in Radiology. She also contributes to HSR subcommittees on Hybrid Imaging and Chest Radiology. Additionally, she holds leadership roles as a Governing Council member of the University of Patras and a substitute member of the Board of Patras University Hospital.

Apostolos Karantanas

UNIVERSITY OF CRETE

Dr Apostolos Karantanas is Professor of Radiology and Chairman Dpt of the Radiology-Medical School-University of Crete. His primary research is focused on the imaging of musculoskeletal disorders, including trauma and emergencies, bone marrow, osteoporosis, sports injuries, hip joint, osteoarthritis, spondyloarthropathies, applications of newer MR sequences, and advanced models of data analysis focused on radiomics and precision medicine.

Prof. Karantanas is a regular faculty member in the European Congress of Radiology, IDKD, ISS, Erasmus courses MSK MRI, the School of MRI/ESMRMB, ESOR, and ESSR. He is also Chairman of the Dpt of Medical Imaging, Affiliated Researcher at the Computational BioMedicine Laboratory/Institute of Computer Science-Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH), and Member of the Sports Injuries Subcommittee/ESSR. He is a board member of the Greek Atomic Energy Commission.

Dr Karantanas has given more than 680 invited lectures in 48 countries and is the author of more than 350 publications in peer review journals (>9.700 citations in Google Scholar, H index 52), seven books (three international), and 85 book chapters.

Michail Klontzas

School of Medicine, University of Crete

Dr. Michail (Mike) Klontzas is an Assistant Professor of Radiology – Oncological Imaging at the School of Medicine of the University of Crete. He has received multiple awards and scholarships for his work, including the Burkett fellowship from Imperial College, the Manassaki fellowship from the University of Crete, the 3rd prize for best PhD from Imperial College, reviewer awards from the Radiological Society of North America, and the Young Researcher’s Grant from the European Society of Skeletal Radiology. Dr. Klontzas is an affiliated researcher with the Institute of Computer Science – FORTH (Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas) and with Karolinska Institute (CLINTEC). He serves as Section Editor for Radiomics at the European Journal of Radiology, as an Advisory Editor of the European Journal of Radiology Artificial Intelligence, is on the editorial boards of European Radiology and Scientific Reports, and has served on the trainee editorial boards of the renowned journals Radiology: Artificial Intelligence and RadioGraphics (RSNA). Dr. Klontzas is a member of the eHealth and Informatics Subcommittee of the European Society of Radiology (ESR), a member of the ESR Research Committee, a member of the Future Strategy Task Force of the European Institute of Biomedical Imaging Research (EIBIR), Secretary of the Scientific Committee of the European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics (EuSoMII), and a board member of the Radiology Trainee Forum of the ESR. He has published more than 100 scientific articles indexed in PubMed, nine book chapters for international publishers, and he is the editor of the books “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence” and “Sustainability of AI in Radiology” (Springer), published under the auspices of EuSoMII. Dr. Klontzas is also a member of the CLAIM AI guidelines steering committee (RSNA) and one of the authors of the METRICS guidelines for quality assessment of radiomics studies by EuSoMII. In addition, he is the Series Editor for the “Imaging Informatics for Healthcare Professionals” series at Springer International. His clinical and research interests focus on oncologic imaging, as well as diagnostic and interventional musculoskeletal radiology.

Androniki Kozana

UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OF HERAKLION

Androniki Kozana is currently a consultant general radiologist in University Hospital of Heraklion. She is a Medical School graduate (2011/University of Crete) and has completed postgraduate studies in Bioethics (2023/University of Crete). She has co-authored 12 peer-reviewed papers and has participated with oral and poster presentations in several national and international conferences.

Stylianos Megremis

UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OF CRETE

Dr. Stylianos Megremis is a Consultant Radiologist, having a permanent position in Greek NHS for over 3 consecutive decades. In 1990, he received his PhD in Thyroid Sonography from the University of Athens, and in 2012 his MSc in Management of NHS Services from the Greek Open University. He has 18 Publications in peer-reviewed medical journals and conference proceedings (with 438 Citations in Google Scholar), 10 in local journals, and numerous presentations in national and international conferences. In 1995, he joined for a semester the Ultrasound Unit of Southampton General University Hospital (England) as an Honorary Clinical Assistant for specialization in colour Doppler procedures (vascular, superficial structures and abdominal applications). Since 2015, he has been working in the Ultrasound Unit of the Medical Imaging Laboratory of the University Hospital of Crete. His clinical expertise includes both Diagnostic and Interventional Sonography. His keen interest is in Abdominal and Peripheral Vascular Sonography and in Prostate Biopsies.

Lia Angela Moulopoulos

Areteion Hospital, NKUA

Lia Angela Moulopoulos is a Professor of Radiology and Chair of the First Department of Radiology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine. She did her post-graduate training in Radiology in Athens, Canada (Mc Gill University) and in the U.S.A. (MD Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas). From the time of her fellowship in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) at MD Anderson Cancer Center, she has focused on imaging of the bone marrow with MRI, working closely with renowned oncologists and hematologists in this field. She has co-authored more than 150 papers in international peer-reviewed journals (8000 citations, h-index 45). She has published extensively in leading radiologic, hematologic and oncologic journals on the topic of multiple myeloma and has worked closely with the International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) to propose new imaging guidelines for this disease. She participated as an investigator in a large study of the IMWG, assessing the diagnostic and prognostic value of Whole-Body CT in patients with multiple myeloma. She published as first author, on behalf of the International Myeloma Working Group, guidelines for acquisition, interpretation and reporting of Whole-Body low dose CT in patients with multiple myeloma and other plasma cell disorders. She co-authored a paper on guidelines for acquisition, interpretation, and reporting of Whole-Body MRI in Myeloma, that introduced the Myeloma Response Assessment and Diagnosis System (MY-RADS). She has also been invited to give lectures and organize workshops on the subject of bone marrow imaging in international conferences and teaching seminars. She has co-authored a textbook on the subject of bone marrow MRI (Bone Marrow MRI: A pattern-based approach, Springer, 2015) and has also written chapters on the subject in international textbooks. During the last few years she has developed an interest in Gynecologic Oncology with several publications and lectures on this topic.
